Web Site Project Worksheet
The following questions will help you organize the development of your web site. A designer will need these answers before they can begin work on the site design.
The Basics
- Do you want your current site redesigned or is this a new site?
- What is the desired date for your new site to be online?
- Is this launch date firm or negotiable?
- What is your company Mission Statement and/or Tag Lines.
- Who are your competitors? Provide a list their web site addresses.
Project Goals
- What are your short term and long term web site goals.
- Who is your Target Audience?
- What do you want users to be able to do on the site?
- What is the MOST important area of the site?
Site Look & Feel
- What kind of look do you want your site to have?
- Do you want to only use company colors on the site?
- Are there are any colors that you dont want used on the site?
- Which web sites do you like and why? Provide a list of web sites addresses.
Technical Info
- What is your Domain Name?
- Who is your ISP?
- What is the FTP address for your Domain Name?
- What is the User ID and Password for your Domain Name?
- Who is the account contact at your ISP?
Client Resources
Create a list of staff memembers and/or freelance resources allocated to the web site design project and indicate the responsibilities of each person.
Web Site Services
These are "services' provided by or purchased from another company to use on your web site. Example: Atomz search or Amazon Books.
Create a list of services that you want on your site. Indicate if you have already set up this account and provide all relating account info.
If this service needs to be research, indicate which person is conducting the research.
Web Site Functionality
These elements will be completed by the programmers working on your site.
Create a list of the forms that you need on your site. Example: customer feedback form
Create a list of additional functional elements you want on the site. Example: search for retailers, a customer homepage, online shopping, service scheduling, chat rooms, message boards, etc.
Site Content
What information do you want to be on your web site? Examples include: product catalog or portfolio, press releases, executive bios, career opportunities, help, FAQ, investor relations, board of directors, company locations and contact info, partners, company history, site map, articles, newsletters, etc.
You do not need to define every page. But you do need to give the designer a list of all the necessary content areas so the designer can create the web site structure and navigation.
